Senses

For the exhibition “Senses”, we are looking out for artists who engage with different senses in the experience of their work. In our exhibition “Senses”, we aim to combine work by artists who focus individually on one of the five classical senses, or who emphasise synesthesia, whereby a sensory stimulus triggers a different sensory perception.

Theme

In addition to the five classical senses identified by Aristotle (hearing, sight, touch, smell and taste), there are other senses to explore. Scientifically, these include proprioception, the sense of balance, interoception and thermoception. In pseudoscience, there is also something called intuition… We are keen to include this sensory experience in the exhibition as well. 

Do you play with the senses in your visual art? Do you involve more than just ‘sight’ in the experience of your work? Do you also use smell, taste, sound, touch (directly or through suggestion) or one of the lesser-known senses to evoke deeper emotions, memories or total immersion? If so, we are looking for your work for this daring group exhibition. 
 

Who are we looking for?

For this project, we are selecting a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 12 artists whose work explores the theme of the senses within their body of work. We are also looking for artists who can organise artistic workshops on this theme for children (and their parents) across different age groups.

In addition to two- or three-dimensional work, we are certainly also open to installations and immersive or interactive work.

The selection will be made by an internal working group.

Exhibition period

The group exhibition, entitled “Senses”, will take place in the exhibition space at CC Het Perron in Ypers. The exhibition will open in mid-November, around Children’s Arts Day 2026. As we strongly believe in the unifying power of visual art across generations, we are keen to organise workshops for children on the same theme during this event. 

Set-up from 3 November to 13 November.

Depending on the nature of the selected work, we may choose to stage the exhibition in two parts (one part for Children’s Arts Day and a follow-up section afterwards); therefore, we are aiming for an opening event during the weekend of 21–22 November.

The exhibition runs until Friday 18 December.

What do we offer

• The work will be collected by our services and fully insured. We will ensure a professional presentation. 

• We will organise an opening event, send out invitations and provide a small catalogue for the exhibition. 

• Each participating artist will receive a  fee of 250 EUR. 

• Terms for workshops are subject to negotiation.

Registration

• Until 17 August via the platform of Kunstwerkt, through the 'Participate'-button
  Submit 1 to 3 works with a description of how the work fits within the theme
  Portfolio with photographic material of existing (similar) work and an artistic CV
  Optional: proposal for a workshop based on the work (description + age group).
   
• First half of September: announcement of selection and feedback
