Pola De Lauwer

Mortsel, Belgium

Pola (born 3 Aug 1992 in Warsaw, Poland) is an contemporary artist, living in Antwerp, Belgium

Her journey as a self-taught artist intuitively started at a young age and grew throughout the years through slow practice and experimentation. Her art represents a deep observation of daily life, nature and cultures. Her artworks mark their uniqueness with abstract, often surreal forms, where she explores the concept of impermanence derived from distant travels and meditation practice.

Primarily, she works with mixed media, aiming for a qualitative, elegant and minimalistic approach. She often uses Belgian linen, allowing it to be showcased as an homage, not just a tool. Linen brings back nostalgic memories of her childhood spent in the slavic countryside, while at the same time marking the importance of this textile to Belgian culture.
