We will be heading out again this spring for three drawing sessions under the banner of “Fieldwork”. We will seek inspiration in animals, plants, and each other's work, and bring it all together in our sketchbooks. Will you pack your drawing supplies and join us for one of the sessions? Or would you rather not miss a thing and opt for a combo ticket?
During this spring series of Veldwerk, we will be inspired by plants and animals, but by species or forms that you might not have expected. We will admire taxidermied animals (at a taxidermist's studio), discover exotic plant species (in the botanical garden) and search for smaller animals (in the butterfly garden and the insect museum). Would you like to bring these animals and plants to life, let them grow, fly and crawl in your sketchbook? And meet other artists and exchange experiences in the meantime? Then these sessions are for you!
On Sunday 8 February, we will be visiting taxidermist Andy's studio (A.Taxidermy), where you can study animals up close and take a look behind the scenes at a taxidermist's work. Andy's studio is brimming with inspiration: unusual tools, piles of feathers, fur and, above all, lots of – motionless – animals. Illustrator Sabien Clement, who has captured many animals on paper, will guide you. How do you capture the uniqueness of an animal on paper? She will share her working methods and help you focus.
On Wednesday 15 April, we will be going on a drawing safari to the botanical gardens in Ghent, together with artist Charlotte Peys. Together, we will wander through the tropical and subtropical greenhouses, where more than ten thousand plant species from all corners of the globe grow, twist, climb and rest. We will start at daybreak and finish at dusk. What time will you draw those plants growing in your sketchbook at twilight?
On Sunday 14 June, we will visit the Butterfly Garden and Insect Museum (soon to be renamed the Biodiversity Experience Centre) in Zutendaal. We will settle down in the butterfly garden, a place where colours, patterns and details flutter around. We invite you to let your lines flutter, buzz, tickle or curl, just like the insects themselves. Wietse Palmans is an artist who has long been inspired by these little creatures, and he is eager to infect you with his enthusiasm – figuratively speaking, of course.
Are you looking for a solid dose of inspiration, lots of impressions, a full sketchbook, and interaction with other participants? Then the combo ticket is for you. With this ticket, you can attend the three sessions on 8 February, 15 April, and 14 June. And you'll get a substantial discount.
With Veldwerk we organise trips where we can draw together. Would you like to leave your studio for a dose of inspiration in a surprising location? Do you enjoy meeting other artists to exchange ideas? Then Veldwerk is just the thing for you. Join us on a few short trips where we will broaden our horizons and explore unfamiliar territory. Think of a surprising location, a look behind the scenes, a lively performance or a challenging vista. Together with a small group of artists, you will take a look at the surroundings and capture your impressions.
Would you like to participate in one of the sessions? Then you can purchase a separate ticket. Fancy a healthy dose of inspiration? Then buy a combination ticket and participate in all three sessions (at a discount).
