Your visual work in words, image and dialogue

What exactly is your work about? Can you send us some photos? And do you have a short text about your work? Sooner or later, as a visual artist, you will be asked these questions, and it's not always easy to answer them. In these three free online sessions, we will help you get started.

These sessions are in Dutch. Do you speak a different language? But you'd like to get the information shared? Let us know at annemie@kunstwerkt.be and we'll see how we can help you.

Speaking about your work

What is the essence of your work? What drives you, what do you find truly important, and from what perspective do you work?

Simple questions at first glance, but as an artist, they are often not easy to answer. What does your “elevator pitch” sound like? During this online session, Emily Van Driessen will give you tools to get started. You will discover which elements are important to mention and how you can do so in a personal and convincing way. The online session on Tuesday 13 January from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm invites you to take an analytical look at your visual practice and translate it into text and words.

Emily Van Driessen is a writer, curator and art mediator. Her mission is to bring contemporary art to a wide audience in an accessible, inclusive and surprising way. Emily works with visual and audiovisual artists on new ways of presenting and interpreting work, with a particular focus on experimental formats outside the traditional gallery space.

Writing about your work

Your visual work speaks volumes, but sometimes you need to put it into words. In this online inspiration session on Thursday 15 January from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm, you will discover how to write clearly and personally about what you create. A down-to-earth, practical approach that sharpens your language and brings your words closer to your practice.

Under the guidance of writer and curator Emily Van Driessen, you will explore how language can become an ally: for your website, portfolio, grant application or your participation in Atelier in beeld. Or simply to gain more insight into your own work. You will learn how to start from your images, how to find your own tone and how to let your texts speak for themselves without making them too heavy.
