Kian Lawson-Khalili (b. 2004) is a filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor currently based in Brussels, Belgium, where he studies at LUCA School of Arts as part of the Pathfinder Joint International FilmEU program. He graduated from the European Film College in Denmark, where he specialized in directing and sound design and collaborated on more than thirty short films. His work explores themes of identity, migration, and belonging, drawing on his English-Iranian heritage and upbringing in Denmark.

Alongside his studies, Kian has developed professional experience across film and television. As an actor, he has appeared in Mr Freeman (2023), Do Not Open (2024), Theo & Den Magiske Talisman (2018), and the upcoming Svindler (2026). These projects, ranging from children’s adventure to independent drama and thriller, have allowed him to move between contrasting genres and deepen his understanding of performance. His time on set has sharpened his perspective as a filmmaker, giving him insight into collaboration, rhythm, and storytelling across independent and commercial productions.

As a filmmaker, Kian focuses on intimate human connections, often situating them within cross-cultural settings. His background in sound design informs a distinctive artistic approach, where narrative and emotion are built as much through sonic texture as through dialogue and image. He sees sound as central to cinematic storytelling, shaping how audiences feel and remember a film.

The Pathfinder program offers him the opportunity to expand this vision internationally. Beginning in Brussels and continuing with exchanges at partner schools like IADT in Dublin, he is building a network of peers across Europe and developing a cinematic language that reflects cultural diversity while keeping a strong link to Danish cinema.

Looking forward, Kian aims to continue developing both as a director and performer, with the ambition of bringing his international experience back into Danish film. His vision is to create works that are personal yet universal, films that highlight new voices while strengthening Denmark’s presence within the wider European and global film community.
