Kunstletters #034 live
The guests on Kunstletters live:
Lise Van den Broucke
In her work, Lise Van den Broucke explores the ways we see and read, and how these are influenced by contemporary information systems and digital technologies. What do you see when you look at a photograph? Does it lose its meaning when you zoom in very closely, or does it actually gain more layers of meaning? Do digital technologies and information flows change the way we read? Plenty to discuss in an interview. Lise gives us a glimpse into her work and her workspace. Her studio is located in the 'maakleerplek', a place where Leuven-based companies, schools, artists, and residents learn, create, and work together. It’s near the Vaartkom, in the old industrial heart of Leuven.
Extreme close-ups reveal patterns that you can’t see with the naked eye, but they also make you question what you’re looking at.
Lauren Bouden
The designer behind the refreshed Kunstletters is a key figure at this festive edition of Kunstletters Live. Lauren transforms brands through graphic design, type design, and illustration. Fun fact: he’s been collecting Alessi objects since he was eight. Lauren’s all-time favorite remains Michael Graves’s kettle, especially because the little bird on it adds a playful and creative touch. Lauren tells us more about his work and sources of inspiration, and gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind the new Kunstletters.
Mediocrity leaves no lasting impression.
Katja Clement
While studying Printmaking at the Academy in Breda, Katja Clement was first introduced to hand bookbinding. It captivated her and became a major part of her graduation project in 1992. Katja went on to specialize in bookbinding during the Book Arts program at the Academy in Berchem, where she has also been teaching since 2000. That program is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, a milestone being marked with an exhibition and, of course, a book. Katja explains how to keep a century-old tradition alive and shares her love for the craft.
Boekkunst draait om unieke objecten, trage aandacht en het idee dat een boek veel meer kan zijn dan een leesbaar voorwerp.
