Mural on Reynaert de Vos

In 2026, Lokeren will be “Reynaert City": the host city for the Intermunicipal Project “Land of Reynaert.” This is a cross-border cultural collaboration project between municipalities north and south of the Flemish-Dutch border, aimed at promoting and keeping alive the story of Van den Vos Reynaerde.

Specifically to celebrate this year, the City of Lokeren (Department of Tourism, Events, and Museums; Department of Culture) and the Tourism Working Group are calling on various artists to create an interactive mural based on the theme of the Reynaert story.

Examples of an interactive element could include:

• A route featuring at least 5 stencils or small murals that reference elements appearing in the large mural (location to be determined by city departments)
• A “Where’s Wally?”-style version of the Reynaert story: search for references to the various characters in the mural
• Small 3D art pieces that can be placed next to the mural in the village
