SLOW - Contemporary art on time, attention and presence
We, De Karmelieten vzw (Annabelle Cock) and Galerie Drie (Wendy Van Driessche), invite artists to draw inspiration from the theme ‘SLOW’ in their own way.
In our world, slowness seems almost like a form of resistance. Slowness demands attention. It demands that we look. That we linger. That we make space for what does not reveal itself immediately.
Slowness can be literal: a slow process, a repetition, a work that takes time to emerge or to be experienced.
But ‘slow’ can also be about attention, silence, waiting, stillness, rhythm, presence, memory, change or time.
It can be about what grows rather than what happens immediately. About the small and almost invisible. About leaving space. About looking without wanting to understand straight away.
We are keen to see works that invite the visitor to step out of time for a moment.
The exhibition takes place in het Karmelietenklooster in Ghent: a historic, tranquil setting that has been associated for centuries with rhythm, repetition, contemplation and daily life within a monastic community.

About Het Karmelietenklooster
Het Karmelietenklooster in Ghent is a vibrant and active monastery, where Carmelites still live and practise their vocation today. It is also a welcoming space where people can come to meet others, find tranquillity, draw inspiration and deepen their spiritual lives.
A wide range of activities are organised around spirituality, meaning, culture and religion. These include lectures, days of reflection, courses and exhibitions. Carmelitana, the bookshop, publishing house and monastery shop, is also part of the monastery’s activities. Guests can stay at Het Rustpunt for rest and reflection.
In Het Karmelietenklooster, tradition and contemporary culture, silence and community, faith and art come together. The exhibitions form part of this vibrant programme and invite visitors to experience the monastery from a different perspective.
About Galerie Drie
Galerie Drie is a small, independent gallery for contemporary art in Ghent. Sint-Amelbergastraat 3A
The gallery was founded by artists Guy De Dapper and Wendy Van Driessche, both graduates of the Ghent Academy. They do not, therefore, operate as a traditional commercial gallery representing only established names. They also aim to provide a platform for young and emerging artists.
