Dirk thienpont
Gent, België
Dirk thienpont (°1971, Ghent, Belgium) is a Belgian visual artist working primarily with acrylic on canvas and wood.
His work moves between intuitive abstraction, circular compositions, minimal paintings and scratch-based surfaces. Working without preparatory sketches or fixed outcomes, his paintings evolve through gesture, layering, repetition and instinctive response to the surface itself.
Raised in an unconventional and often fragile environment, creativity became an essential force early in life. Over time, painting evolved into a way of transforming lived experience into rhythm, tension, color and presence.
A formative stay in India strongly influenced his artistic development and led to the project A heART for India, connecting children from slum areas with young artists in Ghent through collaborative painting and artistic exchange.
Today, his studio functions as both workspace and meeting place — an environment where painting, experimentation and human connection intersect.
Painting begins where thinking stops.
