ARTIST STATEMENT
Born silently and naturally,
From a pure and intimate emotion …
From jewelry to sculptures, large-scale installations, and interior design objects, my work is rooted in my childhood in Africa, and my personal history.
Glass is the medium I chose, but often, I believe glass chose me.
My work is about Life: from birth onward, each human story is shaped by joy, sorrow, wounds and resilience.
Through glass I seek to materialize my inner world and emotions into something pure, simple, but also raw and strong. My aim is to create works that resonate deeply with the viewer.
I am interested in the kind of beauty that is only seen when one takes the time to look, and listens to the quiet sound of light.
Continuously exploring the many different glass techniques, hot and cold, has allowed me to express different feelings. First working with opaque glass, I have moved on to transparency and light, and so I continue
on that path today, exploring new directions in photography, mirror silvering, reflections, and the images revealed through glass.
Collaborating with other artists and craftspeople is an important part of my practice, one I find extremely enriching and powerful.
