Marianne Csaky

Anderlecht, België

Marianne Csaky lives in Brussels, Belgium. She spent several years in Asia, taught at the Yunnan Art Institute in China, and participated in residency programs in the USA, France, Sweden, Finland, South Korea and Germany, among others. Her work has been shown internationally including an exhibition in the Ludwig Museum Budapest (2025), a solo appearance at Paris Photo (2019) and at the Volta New York (2013), as well as shows in the US, Europe and Asia.

Christoph Wiesner, the director of Paris Photo, spoke on French public television (France.TV/Télématin Antiquités) about her works exhibited in the Prismes section of the Paris Photo, which received the Curator's Choice award. https://vimeo.com/1045413236

Marianne earned a doctoral degree from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, and an MA in Literature and Cultural Anthropology.

She has created an independent exhibition space in her studio in Brussels, the Streetview Anderlecht, where she invites young artists to showcase their work. https://vimeo.com/1073552328; https://www.instagram.com/streetviewanderlecht/

An English language artist monograph is available on Marianne Csaky's work. Erzsébet Tatai, Marianne Csaky. 2014, Libratallér Bt. Budapest, 272 p. ISBN 978-963-12-0816-0

Community and personal memory, history, sexuality and environmental changes are at the centre of her visual exploration. She is interested in how people's desires and beliefs, their personal stories, relate to the canonized narratives.

She often uses archive footage and photos in her work. A recurring source of inspiration for her is a collection of glass negatives taken by her grandfather around the mid-20th century.
