Palimpsest
‘Palimpsest’ is a textile installation that reveals the layers of identity, memory and community. Drawing on the crafts of old fishing villages, particularly knitting, crocheting and embroidery, connections are made with global textile traditions. This knitting together of threads creates a contemporary map of stories, in which personal roots, multicultural influences and the political urgency of Palestine come together. The work hangs in the church as an invitation to meet and gather. Just as a palimpsest reveals old traces beneath new layers, the installation shows how past and present, village community and global citizenship, are interwoven. Visitors are invited to see differences and memories not as fault lines, but as threads that together form a new whole.
